La Garrofera was born out of an intuition: the vision of an alluring space of aroma and flavour formed by barley malt, carob, hops and two plants of the Artemisia family. An intuition that was brought to life and consolidated through years of research that set out to understand, shape and refine it.
Carob emerged as a great ally and travelling companion for the barley malt, naturally opening the door to the world of beer. We were captivated by the dense mouthfeel and complex nuances of the carob-barley malt duo following fermentation.
That promising base needed an additional element with a distinctive bitterness and character to balance it out. Beyond the hops, an essential in the brewing sector, we decided to enhance this bitter component with a botanical of the Artemisia genus, to open up the spectrum of aromas and flavour with a whole new palette of nuances.
One of the cornerstones of the Esperit Roca project is understanding and interpreting the role of each ingredient as part of an alcoholic beverage. The idea is to present them from a unique perspective, where they can express the best of themselves and shine in their full magnificence.
It is important to understand where they come from, the imagery they embody and what they can evoke. From a sublimely organoleptic perspective, we lend them a backdrop for the creation of inspiring liquid landscapes. That is what the La Garrofera collection is about.
The carob bean, a classic of Mediterranean dry cultivation, has always played a major role in the construction of the Esperit Roca imaginary. Our ongoing research of the plants around us paved the way for our discovery of the Artemisia genus, a botanical family that have enabled us to explore and connect with the land through immensely diverse aromas and flavours.
That relationship gave rise to two beers that have expanded the Landscape Series: La Garrofera Daurada and La Garrofera Bruna. Together, they reflect in depth the power of the concept, while enhancing our range of products through beer.
Landscape beer, rupestrine beer.
